Medicine Shield

  • One large paper plate, (not plastic coated)
  • 2 foot length of raffia, string, plastic cord or ribbon
  • Stuff to decorate with: glue, colored sand, small grains, dried, silk and pressed leaves and flowers, marking pens, crayons, lengths of yarn, thick string or cord, strips of cloth, raffia, etc.

Draw the design you want on a piece of paper the same size as the plate and color it in.
When you have it the way you want it, make the same picture on the bottom of the plate. Glue the various materials instead of on the drawing. Let dry flat.

When totally dry (so stuff doesn’t fall off), punch holes around the rim of the plate and tie the string so that it hangs down.
On opposite sides, (the lengthwise if using a paper platter), tie string so it goes across the length of the plate. This is what you put your arm through to hold the shield.

Use this shield for dancing and healing, never for fighting, even pretend.

Wish Egg

  • One hard boiled egg
  • Wax for drawing (piece of candle, crayon), or just use marking pens
  • Natural or food colors

Draw a picture of the wish on the egg with the wax, and write the wish under it. MAKE IT SHORT. Color egg with the appropriate color, i.e., green for prosperity, red or pink for love, blue for health, etc. If you want to use natural colors, onion skins make yellow, beets make red, spinach makes green and red cabbage makes blue. Take the egg into a wild area and bury it, saying “Now I send my wish to Thee, as I do Will, SO MOTE IT BE” three times. Remember, no wish should interfere with another person’s free will except for self-protection, and Harm None.
