Herbal Wind Chimes

  • Wire hanger
  • Raffia, string, wire or yarn
  • Sticks, old metal objects (bottle caps, old flatware, tins with both sides removed, etc.), small bells, large beads, shells and anything else that’s not too heavy
  • Large sprigs of highly scented herbs like lavender, rosemary, wormwoods, bay, etc.

Tie the noisemaking objects to bottom of hanger about 1 inch apart so that they are of a length that they can bang together. Then start tying the herbs onto the hanger: Put strings on the floor. Lay hanger so it crosses the strings. Lay the herbal branches parallel and on top of the hanger. Draw up the string and start tying knots, letting the string hang down.

Cover the hanger completely with herbs, with only the hook showing, and tie more stuff onto the ends of the hanging strings. Hang outside for sound, or inside for scent. If you put it in your closet, it will help repel moths and scent your clothes.
