Deites

Some other Goddesses who touch me are of course the teasing and joking Bauba, Lilith (“Just say no”); OShun (the Orisha embodiment of physical pleasure); Bridget in all Her aspects. Demeter, Kali and Hecate (a triple Goddess), are all fierce, complicated and creative. I think ferocious Goddesses draw women because we've had "Virgin/Mother" shoved at us for so long. Men want sexy, loving mothers/maidens; women are ready for warriors.

I wouldn’t recommend introducing a child to any entire pantheon all at once. Depending on your pantheon(s), pick only a few representative Deites, ones that have distinctive archetypes. Some of the ones I’ve found young women like the best are Artemis, Blue Corn Maiden, White Buffalo Maiden, Amazon, Persephone, and Kore, who are all some aspects of the Maiden (a young woman already bleeding). The maiden while the companion of wild animals, is also a huntress, though these days that pretty much takes place in malls. She is a caretaker of the young beings and wild places. She has an affinity for horses and snakes. Her element is air. She is the new moon.

Kwan Yin, Green Tara, Mary, Yamaya are aspects of the virginal mother. She represents compassion, comfort, mercy, humor and self-contained fertility. Her elements are earth and water; she is the full moon.

Grandmother Spider, Hecate, the Nornes, Cerridwin, Sofia, Baba Yaga, Ma’at, Medusa are Dark Mother and Crone. She is mysterious and strange, weaver of the fabric of life and the cutter of its thread. She metes out justice without mercy, but none judge Her. She is the teacher. She is cranky, dangerous, funny and arbitrary, but she holds the most precious gifts – wisdom and magick. Her elements are water and fire. She is the dark moon. Approach Her as the male approaches the female black widow spider. Your rewards can be death or immortality.
