Deites

Kali, Sekhmet and Pele are violent, destroying, joyous, and passionate Goddesses, representing the ending that is necessary for rebirth. Men have misunderstood and feared them for eons. They touch the hearts of girls who are dealing with anger and protection of self. They empower, and represent righteous fury and relentless change. They are all five elements in their most destructive states. They are the universe, not restricted to single objects such as the sun or moon. They have the ability to change depression to rage.

Hera, Hestia, Bridget, Freya, Astarte, Gaia, Earth, Isis Mother are fertility, the home and hearth, love, nurturing of family, protector of family and children, nourishing caregiver. Their element is usually earth, full moon. Some of them got maligned as part of the subjugation of the feminine divine. For instance, Hera was changed into a maliscious, jealous shrew who really held a grudge.

Pele, Sol, Father Sun, Apollo, Ra, Thor are all Deites of Fire, the Sun, representing energy, destruction and rebirth, passion and anger. Then we have Lucina, Jesus, and the other baby sun goddesses and gods, which represent all new beginnings.

Loki, Mercury, Coyote, Anansi the Spider, Eris, Crow is the Trickster, and Bauba are celebrated on April 1st (All Fool’s Day). Trickster is humor, mischief, but also the messenger and communicator but can be dangerous. People acting out of baser motives are likely to have to eat the fruit of their own trees. Trickster is traditionally the liaison between the Deites and humans.

Herne, Zeus, Woden, Pan, Krishna, the Hero Twins, Osiris are seasonal changes, male energy, virility, love and passion, acquired knowledge, heroics, comforter and consoler of the Goddess, the Sun. I downplay the warrior aspects of these Deites and stress their role in creation as the lover/brother/child of the Goddess.

Teenage girls love the aggressive and powerful Goddesses, like Kali, Pele, Artemis, and the Amazons.
Little children favor the Tricksters. Boys and men of course are drawn to the Horned Gods. Just remember to teach them the role of the Horned One is that of Comforter and Consoler to the Goddess.
