Teaching Children About Magickal Energy.

Most children believe in magick. The younger they are, the stronger their connection. I've been gifted with a summer job teaching "Earth Journeys" at a rich white bread children’s' day camp. I'm their pet New Age (they suspect I'm a Witch, but prefer to think of me as New Age) teacher. They give me close to total autonomy regarding activities. I have 1500 kids, ages 3 through 13, in one to two hour blocks for nine weeks. I take them into the woods, show them how to find power spots, how to identify and use the wild plants (and which not to touch). We chant She Changes, and Earth Air Fire Water, dance in circles and howl. My littlest ones can tell you what a rune is and how to create one.

They are able to raise energy, identify at least 20 wild plants (including those that cure and those that kill), tell you about Artemis and Orion, Grandmother Spider and Baba Yaga. They know how to hand feed a wasp, make their own runes from scratch -- and use them, and make gardens for faeries. They know about the Burning Times and the Inquisition, The Law of Hospitality, and Marija Gimbutas. Some of these kids are born Witches. Spiraling through all the activities are the dancing strings of magick.
